Gary Bills is a graduate of the University of Durham, where he studied English language and medieval literature. He then trained as a journalist, and he currently works for Newsquest Gannett.
His poetry has been critically acclaimed; he has won awards, and a number of his poems have been translated into German, Italian and Romanian.
He has published two poetry collections, which are The Echo and the Breath (Peterloo Poets, 2001) and The Ridiculous Nests of the Heart (Bluechrome, 2003).
In 2005, he edited the anthology, The Review of Contemporary Poetry, for Bluechrome.
Gary has given professional readings at the Ledbury Poetry Festival, at Poetry on the Lake in Italy, and at the Poetry Trend Festival, in Munich.
In the autumn of 2017, he signed a contract with the American-based publishing house, The Little French Ebooks Company, for his first novella for adults, A Letter for Alice. It was published in May 2019.
In January 2018, he and his wife, Heather E. Geddes signed another contract with The Little French Ebooks Company for a collection of stories, called Bizarre Fables.
This was a collaboration, with most of the stories being co-plotted. Gary did all the writing and Heather did the artwork and illustrations.
